Dr. James Honeycutt

The Reverend Dr. James E. Honeycutt is licensed as a clinical social worker with experience in the field of mental health since 2004. He and his wife (Julie) had a private practice for many years in Nashville, TN; but, after moving to Michigan, he gradually shifted his time and attention to ministry on a full-time basis while continuing to see select clients. He has a particular interest in how the ancient spiritual understanding of the psyche (soul) overlaps with modern theories of mental health and has spoken at conferences and educational seminars on this subject. He offers therapy services to those struggling with:

  • IFS informed Spiritual Direction/ Pastoral Counseling
  • Career Counseling & Education/ Academic Discernment
  • Emotional Problems (depression, anxiety, anger)
  • Addictions/Compulsions
  • Meaning of Life
  • Trauma/PTSD

His clinical training includes a master's degree from the University of Tennessee and a doctorate in marriage and family therapy from Palmer Theological Seminary of Eastern University. Additional post-graduate work was completed through the Center for Self Leadership in the Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy model, as well as a unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital affiliated with Harvard Medical School. He is an in-network provider for Blue Cross Blue Shield and Blue Care Network insurances; but those using other insurance plans can be provided a detailed invoice to submit for any out-of-network reimbursement their health plan offers.
